Goat is actually Andrew Scott Rosen, popular NYC songster who managed to bolster his recording career with some advantageous music placement in film, TV, and advertising. The title track, "Great Life," from his Ruffhouse/Columbia Records debut LP released in 1998, was burned into millions' subconscious through a national Kia car commercial (and was apparently so valuable that his next label decided to include a version on his next LP). His third LP Twisted Heart was recorded with a fraction of the players that his first two did, and the resulting sound explores a fraction of the avenues. Rosen traded in the hip-hop click tracks and blue-eyed funky dance beats for a piano-heavy affair surrounded by basic guitar/bass/drum tracks. The result is still a unique, even odd melding of jazz-light, blues, and Dave Matthews-esque jam; his vocals a combo of Randy Newman and Matthews. Two tracks stand out as the most accessible-- the funky opener "Two Sides To Love," and the title track, on which Rosen strips it down to what he likely showcases acoustically, with warm and pretty acoustic guitar. Rosen's publishing reps are already busy at work lining up play for his songs in upcoming TV shows and movies, so if sales don't deliver, royalties will.
